Products Import in the EU

The profitability of flax processing in the EU

Flax has occupied one of the leading places in popularity for many centuries.

The product of flax processing – flax fiber – is successfully used in the textile industry, and useful oil is obtained from the seeds of another type of flax. Flax is one of the richest plants in saturated acids, and therefore the use and use of flax oil is quite popular among adherents of a healthy lifestyle.

This allows farmers from all over the world to safely grow flax in the fields, because this plant can always be successfully sold to countries where the cultivation of this crop is impossible. By the way, it is often in other countries where flax is purchased and further processed.

What you need to know about flax processing

One of the most difficult stages in working with this crop is the correct seeding and harvesting of the plant. The soil is preliminarily prepared using loosening and various chemicals. Treatment of plants during the growing season is equally important, and during this stage various weed and pest control products are also used. However, the most difficult stage is harvesting, since farmers must clearly understand for what purposes flax will be used – for fiber, or for oil. The terms of work and the technology of their implementation depend on this. In addition, it is worth choosing the right harvesting technique that will use the principle of pulling the stem.

After that, processing begins – the flax is folded into ribbons and allowed to mature, periodically turning the crop over. Next comes the selection with the help of roll presses, when the strips, rolled into a roll, are transported to the plant. Primary processing takes place there, resulting in trusts, fibers and other products.

As a rule, the import of flax occurs at the stage when the necessary products have already been obtained from the plant. EU countries buy this plant in order to produce fiber and oil on their own.

In which EU countries flax is processed

Given that most of this plant is grown directly in Europe, EU countries are actively involved in the processing of flax.

According to statistics, Germany, France and Belgium are especially successful in this. This market has its own peculiarities – about 10 thousand local companies are engaged in processing and production. The stages of production are monitored by the European Confederation of Flax and Hemp Growing, which includes representatives from various countries.

In this regard, the supply of flax from Ukraine to the EU is no more than 3%.

Profitability

As with any production process, the profitability of growing this plant is important to farmers. Despite the fact that Europe buys some flax from Ukraine, the seeds are still actively supplied to other countries, in particular, to the USA. America is the main buyer of local flax, and manufacturers must provide certain documents to supply products to the States. You can find them on the website of the Customs Union, where there are also samples of their filling.

In general, the cultivation of flax in Ukraine remains profitable, since the burden of the duty does not exceed 10%. Now producers are focused on increasing yields in order to be competitive in world markets.
